If you can't find a particular color you are looking for, try searching for the Pantone color, even if that exact color doesn't exist yet. The Pantone color system helps create consistency in the industry and enables you to make more confident design choices. To choose a color, you use the eyedropper tool to paint a color on a sample area of the background color. This sample area is the color of the background that you want for the object that will replace it. Colors can be tinted, which means a color can be specified with a certain amount of gray or transparency in it, or they can be shaded, which means a color can be specified with a certain amount of black or white in it. Tinted colors are called tints, and shaded colors are called shades. For example, you can tint a color of orange with yellow and the resulting shade is a semi-tint. Similarly, you can shade a color of orange with light blue and it creates a shade. If you use the eyedropper tool to select the new color and then double-click the eyedropper tool, you set both the background color and the foreground color, and then the color-choose dialog box appears in the Create New Color window, as shown in Figure 3-2.
